Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern

"Baumgartner's has great cheese, sandwiches and local craft beer. My husband and I visited to enjoy the famous Big Stinky sandwich. We both enjoy limburger cheese on rye with a nice slice of red onion and at Baumgartner's it is a staple. Of course we washed it down with some New Glarus beer. What more could you ask for....it was the most Wisconsin lunch ever. ;-) The atmosphere at Baumgartner's is casual. The staff are friendly and helpful. Need some local cheese, well, as the name indicates Baumgartner's has plenty of local cheese varieties to choose from. I'd definitely comeback the next time I'm in the state. Thank you for a great experience!"

"Cheese store in the front, deli turned restaurant/bar towards the back. Decor embraces the Switzerland vibe in the area. Curds are broiled not fried, but delicious. Enjoyed the pretzel and cheese sauce also. Great selection of cheese sandwiches, cold or grilled. Salad was delicious with large portions. Kids enjoyed the half slab ribs for $10. This place is pretty cool, definitely with a check."

"Limburger Cheese, Braunschweiger and sharp red onions on dark rye. This is my favorite sandwich at Baumgartner's. Another popular sandwich is the homemade tuna salad (not always available). Baumgartner's Cheese Store and Tavern has a good selection of beer with the local New Glarus Brewing Co beers on tap. Usually there are at least 3 soups served each day. If you have the chance to order the Tomato Basil bisque, you definitely will not be disappointed."

"If you've come this far, be brave and go for the heavy hitter.. Braunschweiger & Limburger. Make sure you get onions on the sandwich, side of potato salad to help cleanse the palate. Find your soul for a culinary adventure and suck it up. Drink with each bite and you'll be fine."

"I absolutely LOVE small town Wisconsin restaurants/bars with character. Baumgartners OOZES Wisconsin character. From their cheese focused menu, and local craft beers, to the kitchy decor that hasn't seen an update since the Carter administration. Hidden behind the small town charms, however, is a menu simple, charming, and deeply delicious. If youre in the neighborhood, give them a hello, and have a snack, lunch, or just a cocktail."

"Wow! This place is great. Old school vibe; bet this place hasn't changed at all in the past 70 years! Had their daily lunch special, shrimp salad wrap, which came with a pickle and a slab of farmers cheese. Amazing. Had a pint of New Glarus beer to wash it down, and can't think of a better lunch! "Stopped here for a drink before heading to dinner. What a fun place! Enjoyed the small cheese platter and the 2nd best chili. The staff is phenomenal. Full of energy and welcoming. Highly recommended"
